Xanadu was a 2025 experimental immersive staging of the 2006 Broadway musical, itself based on the 1979 cult classic film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Developed at UCLA, it explored the use of emerging technologies such as extended reality and artificial intelligence to create new audience experiences. Set in Venice, California in 1980, the Greek muse Clio takes the name Kira to inspire the struggling artist Sonny Malone to open the pinnacle of all artistic venues: a roller disco.
